As participants work through our program, they continue to grow toward the eventual goal of self-efficacy.  Self-efficacy is one's belief they can accomplish certain goals.  When it comes to health and wellness, it is important to know where the participant is mentally.  The health locus of control refers to whether people believe their health issues are externally or internally created and thus, controlled.  If they believe too strongly that their health issues are beyond their control, they develop what is known as learned helplessness.  

Learned helplessness refers to a "psychological state in which people have come to believe that they are helpless in, or have no power or control over, certain situations... This means that they believe failure occurs because of unchangeable and uncontrollable personal qualities in themselves."  For this reason, people do not believe that the solution to their health is them, when in fact, they are their only solution.

Measured Outcomes

Our goal is to first have client assess and educate themselves of where they should be health-wise.  Second, is to have participants set SMART goals from where they are in order to get to where they want to be.  Third, use social determination theory to motivate participants through the transtheoretical model of behavior change, where clients eventually grow intrinsic motivation to maintain positive health habits.  The measured variables for this study are:

1. Attitude (source: survey):
- Importance of positive health management
- Self-efficacy in a health and wellness routine
- Autonomy in establishing health and wellness goals, a program, and following that program
- Desire to become more active in health and wellness profession

2. Lifestyle related changes (source: journal and smart phone app):
- Physical activity habits
- Stress management
- Diet and nutrition habits
- Sleep habits
- Hydration habits
- Lifestyle
- Blood pressure
- Height and Weight
​- Waist Circumference
