Cultural History
The CHaRR’s Virtual Museum tells the cultural story of several of the groups occupying California’s San Gabriel Valley (SGV). The rich history and diversity of the SGV are profound and inspiring.
Race Relations
The richness of our collective history comes with an interesting story of the race relations between the Native Americans, Europeans, Latinos (Mexicans, Chicanos, and Hispanics), Whites, Asians, and Blacks
One Community
From the richness of our collective history and profound diversity comes one community. A community with vibrant potential and a brilliant aesthetic. Few places in the world boast the diversity of the SGV.
Our Past is NOT Our Future
The SGV has a story of European colonization and slavery, war, segregation, Black exclusion, Chinese exclusion, Japanese internment, and many other historic atrocities that have separated the experiences held by the various groups throughout the SGV. While we should all know this history, and embrace this history, we should all be careful never to repeat this history.
But, Our Past Set the Future’s Trajectory
The negative aspects of our history are not the only parts of the SGV’s history. We should learn both the positives and negatives of the SGV’s history so that we can learn from the negatives and celebrate the positives. We must also reckon with the fact that there is harm in our history. Creating a bright future with a positive trajectory for all means facing the historic harm and redefining our current trajectory.
